| . | All Forage Farms Eat Healthy, Eat Grass-Fed. Why Grass-Fed? The tradition of feeding grain to ruminants has devastating effects on the quality of meat and to their health. Grass-fed beef has the following benefits over conventional beef:
Feeding even small amounts of grain can reduce CLA content as much as 50% and greatly diminishes Omega 3's. Another important aspect of Grass-fed beef is the reduction of dangerous strains of E. coli. Grain is not a natural food of ruminants, and feeding it raises the pH of the rumen. This allows strains of E. coli to mutate in order to survive. The danger arises when these strains can survive in our own digestive juices, which would ordinarily destroy them. Grass-fed animals harbor less E. coli overall. Grain feeding has far more reaching effects than just the health of the meat. Vast amounts of fossil fuels are consumed and 3 billions tons of topsoil are eroded every year due to row cropping in order to feed confined animals. Millions of tons of chemicals are poured onto our soils without regard for the quality of our food or environment. All Forage Farms is a grass farm that remains in permanent pasture. This reduces soil erosion by up to 93%. We use only compost, organic soil amendments and natural minerals to enhance our land and produce gourmet grass-fed beef and lamb. * The information from throughout our website can be found in the following references: Alan Nation's Grassfed to Finish, Eatwild.com, Joel Salatin's Salad Bar Beef & Shannon Haye's Grassfed Gourmet Cookbook. **If you are interested in additional resources or readings please contact us. 2007
